Studio Visit 02
When we discovered the work of Ben Fiess online, we loved his use of form and color in sculptural and utilitarian ceramics, and wanted to invite him to be a part of Ship & Shape's Spring Collection. We were amazed to track him down to a farm outside the Twin Cities, and he was kind enough to show us around his workspace.
We were charmed by Ben's groupings of pieces, kitchen cupboards filled with jars of glazes, the different kilns scattered around the property, his encyclopedic archive of glazed samples, and obviously his cat. Ben's artistry is so apparent in his choice of colors, explorations of shape and texture in his medium, and his experimental integration of materials like rubber bands and washi tape in these beautiful and functional vessels. We are thrilled to be including his work in our upcoming collection.
